Bobby Clay: RED-S, primary amenorrhea, osteoporosis and her quest to spread awareness
In this episode we speak to distance runner Bobby Clay who has been through a turbulent time in recent years suffering from many of the implications associated with Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport.
Bobby rose through the ranks and burst onto the international running scene at a very young age but experienced primary amenorrhea, went on to develop osteoporosis, and was then placed on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
Bobby discusses her unrealistic and over-demanding training schedule, the toxic relationship she developed with her body and food due to the culture she was exposed to, and how this led her down a path of injury and isolation.
Bobby also chats about how education is key to addressing the problem and why she wants to spread awareness to deter her situation being repeated or experienced by other up and coming young athletes.
