In this episode we speak to middle-distance runner and double Olympian Eilish McColgan and her mother, coach and former athlete (and Olympic silver medalist) Liz McColgan.
We chat about Liz's role in coaching her oldest daughter Eilish, how they manage their long-distance relationship as mum and daughter and coach and athlete and how Liz got into the male-dominated world of sports coaching.
Liz talks about how she feels around the lack of females in coaching roles and how women could be provided with more support and mentorship to try and address the problem and help women attain roles higher up in the sport of athletics.
We also get an insight into Eilish's training over the past 12 months and around the problems she has experienced with her menstrual cycle. Liz explains how she tracks Eilish's cycle and symptoms and details how they adapt training around this, with Liz encouraging other coaches to be open about the topic and to do the same.
This is a great episode for anyone interested in coaching or anyone who wants to open up communication with their athletes around their menstrual cycle .
